I started school hoping to better myself and make a future for my child. I doubted myself, thinking that I wouldn't make it through school, but God helped me through. Now that I've completed the program I look forward to a career as a successful Medical Assistant and moving up from there. Thank you Allen School."
Ebony Gallashaw, Brooklyn

"Before going to the Allen School, all I had was a high school diploma. That would've gotten me a minimum wage job with no room for advancement. As soon as I graduated I started making good money, and [I have] a certificate that ensures that I will always be a place in the medical field. Thanks to teachers like Dr. Surrey, I know more than I need to to take care of my patients. And with Ms. Jackson's training on job seeking, I aced my very first interview. If it weren't for the Allen School, I don't know what I would be doing now."
Melanie Rodriguez, Brooklyn
"I was working as a child provider (babysitter), raising my three children at the same time. When my children grew up, I woke up one day and I said to myself, Now is the time that you think about yourself and get a job. All the teachers at the Allen School teach you with a lot of patience and a lot of love at the same time. When I went for my internship I was so nervous. But then a patient came back and asked for me to take his blood, I was so proud of myself. It feels so good to see that a lot of people depend and really care for you and believe in you. The Allen School changed my life. Now I am not just a babysitter, I am a professional Medical Assistant who enjoys my career and feels so proud of myself."

They are there no matter what your situation. They can help you get to where you want to be."

"Before I came to the Allen School I was not happy. I was unemployed and felt like I had no direction. Now I'm a Medical Assistant and graduated at the top of my class. At first it was hard to stick with it but a teacher gave me the encouragement to go on. The Allen School has changed my life and now I'm happy!!"
Jamillah A. Canty, Jamaica, NY
"To tell you the truth, my life before the Allen School was not the life that many would like to have. I lived alone and did not have any type of positive direction to follow in life. I always dreamed of working in the medical field, but I had a great fear of not being able to accomplish what I set forth to do. Fortunately, with the help of dedicated Allen School teachers, I learned the proper techniques for how to treat a patient…how to build rapport and empathize…how to work with a computer…and find success. Then, halfway through my studies, I was in a car accident, and almost lost my life. I was left with multiple fractures, kidney problems, paralyzed from the waist down, unable to have any use of my right arm and on a respirator. Right there in the hospital bed I made a decision to take what I had learned in school and apply it to myself. I did whatever I had to do to get back on my two feet. With the help of friends, family and classmates, teachers and most of all God, I was able to go back to school. I would never have imagined that by going to school and following a positive direction in life, I would have so many people by my side. Today I am happy to say that I have completed the Medical Assistant program, and I was offered a job at my internship site."
Ricardo Cruz
"I must tell this story to everyone who wants to better their life and think they cannot because of problems and situations around them… I was working in a nursing home and one night a nurse came in the room to give my client an enema. I looked at the tube and saw that she was giving the wrong one to the patient. I told the nurse and she said to me, Why don't you go and further your studies? I went to the Allen School and signed up the very next day. I knew it was going to be hard, but I said to myself, I've worked hard enough, it's time to take care of me. It was a sacrifice, but I won. It was hard because I had to work and go to school at the same time. But now I can look back and say I made it through, and I tell people, the same way that brought me through will help you, too."
Elowrine Dixon, Jamaica, NY
"My job before the Allen School was a tense one, being a public bus driver. I had to work most of the time angry. I want to thank Dr. Surrey. He is a real genuine teacher who is concerned about his students learning."
Jerome Rhames, Brooklyn
"The Allen School has given me a new beginning. They picked me up when I was down and held my hand, while at the same time giving me the confidence to accomplish the things I thought I couldn't do. Thanks to Ms. Jackson, I finished with a great average and was hired at my internship site and started to work immediately after completing my course. My job is so much fun! I work with a midwife helping to deliver babies. Thanks to everyone who believed in me and gave me a great start to a beautiful future."
Emily Ortega, Brooklyn
"I had taken 3 months of nursing training before I started at the Allen School and I was bored by the anatomy class. The Allen School teachers made me love it, which helps me in my job as a Medical Assistant. I can now answer patients' questions in a knowledgeable way. Likewise, computers never held any interest for me. Ms. Te, the computer instructor at the Allen School, made it seem fascinating."

"I always wanted to be in the medical field, but time was never on my side, until one day while working at L.A. Weight Loss I realized I needed a career not just a job. It was a Tuesday morning. I was supposed to be going to work but I just felt so unhappy, I decided not to. Instead I made an appointment to register at the Allen School. My prayers were finally answered. Now I'm a Medical Assistant and I'm getting ready to go back to school in September for my Associate Degree in Surgical Tech. Thank you Allen School for being my stepping stone."
Lera Bertrand, Altamonte Springs, FL
"Before attending Allen School, I lived day to day to make ends meet. As I kept on working it seemed like the more money I made the more bills piled up. So I got fed up going to a job where I would be living week to week and check to check. I decided it was time for a career, not just a job. The teachers and staff at Allen School really helped to get me on my way. I now have the education, determination and motivation to make it as a medical assistant."
