Kim Christensen Faculty Bio

Kim Christensen

The Allen School is (to me):

An opportunity for growth for both my students and myself in education.  Allen is the platform that allows me to teach and share knowledge.

My academic/medical interests are:

Teaching in the medical field to include, but not limited to, billing and coding as well as health administration courses. I enjoy working in the medical field and as such keep my fingers in the world of coding to help my students stay more up to date with current events.

Some of the jobs I have had in my lifetime include:

Hmm I have done a little of everything from Breaking and Training horses (in  my much younger days), working retail, working for a newspaper, computer programming, medical billing and coding, training Electronic Health Records and Practice management systems, to teaching. I have a very diverse background.

The best thing about being an instructor is:

To me the best part of being an instructor is ‘seeing’ or ‘hearing’ when the information starts to make sense to students. Also, when the teacher becomes the student. I feel that is the point a teacher can sit back and say “Yep, I did my job right”.

When I am not in the classroom or on campus I can be found:

I can be found one of two places. Either on the back of my Harley leading a ride with my husband and exploring the mountain roads or on the back of my horse exploring the mountain trails.  In colder weather though you are more likely to find me on the couch with a good book or movie.

Movies I can watch over and over:

Lonesome Dove is by far one of my favorite movies and any western with Tom Sellek or Sam Elliott.

Favorite TV shows:

Law and Order (original, SVU, and Criminal Intent), CSI, NCIS, Black list, Undercover Boss

Websites I visit daily:

Allen, of course! As much as I do not want to admit it to my kids, Facebook J. I also visit LinkedIN,,

Favorite area restaurants:

In our small town there really is only three sit down restaurants. My favorite would be ABC (American Burger Classic). Good home town food and good people all the way around.

Coolest things I have ever done:

Worked with horses ranks at the top of the list. I used to barrel race and rope when I was younger. Now that I’m older riding my Harley is pretty cool.

Places I have lived:

Arizona, Pennsylvania, Oklahoma, Germany, Italy, Arkansas (current)
