Ever since I was young, I knew I wanted to serve others in a hands-on and practical way. I knew that pursuing medicine would be the route I would take. As I grew older the dream stayed the same, but with a twist… I now want to serve others in countries where physicians and nurses are scarce, and people sadly lose their life to sicknesses that are easily treatable. In many of these countries people are willing to walk miles and miles with a grateful and hopeful heart because they don’t have a hospital nearby or a bus one stop away. When I attended Grand Canyon University, I had my heart set on pre-med. The rigorous course load had me second guessing myself. Am I smart enough? Will I even get accepted into a medical school? Why does everyone else understand this and I fall subject to confusion? Prior to my junior year at GCU I dropped out, which led me to the path of becoming a medical assistant. From day one, I felt accepted. From day one, I knew that there was a team of people who would bless me with their time, love, and knowledge. On day one, I met a woman, Dr. Hunt, who I will forever look up to. Her passion for medicine, teaching, and people rubbed off on me! I am blessed to have had so many amazing people as role models. Medical Assisting was just the first step in my journey to medicine. My next stop is nursing.
