How to Help Haitian Earthquake Victims

haiti-quakeIn the aftermath of a 7.0 earthquake in the impoverished island nation of Haiti, some of the world’s poorest citizens are dealt an ever more challenging hand than they had been faced with previously.  With so little by way of resources in the best of times, folks in Haiti are now faced with having to rebuild whatever semblance of normalcy they might be able to regain with even less than the zero resources they had pre-quake.  Follow me over the jump to a list of links to relief organizations where your help (either monetarily or voluntarily) is needed desperately. http://www.directrelief.org/ http://www.oxfam.org/en/getinvolved/donate http://doctorswithoutborders.org/ http://www.icrc.org/eng A great list of aid organizations courtesy of the Rachael Maddow Show A group that supports Haitian orphanages A Quaker Relief Organization Please do whatever you can to add to the international relief efforts for some of the least of God’s children who are suffering beyond their fair share.

  1. Thank you Anthony for this list! It’s so frustrating to hear the news and not being able to do anything. I know for many it’s impossible to donate money at this time or to volunteer in Haiti, but I believe helping in your neighborhood can also make a big difference. Helping with errands, or taking care of your neighbor’s kids, basically just being there for them in this time of grief can be a big relief.

  2. Daniel, I think this is something that is very important, but unfortunately overlooked by many people, as I think it is easy to think that all you can donate is money or food, but time can be just as important, if not more so.

As more and more information is released about this tragedy, it is clear that Haiti is going to be a much different place for a long time, if not forever and there comes a point when simply adding more money isn’t going to be enough…

Thank you, for these sites! It’s so frustrating to hear the news and not being able to do anything to help. I know for many it’s impossible to donate money at this time or to volunteer in Haiti, but I believe helping with what you can even if it is just gifting to people here can help. I know that with everything going on with our economy not many people have the money to be able to help out, but I am sure glad that many have.
